Minecraft multiplayer - can't you just start your own world and join others?

My daughter has Minecraft from the Microsoft Store and her friend the Java Edition.

You can't connect. The message "No connection to the world" appears.

I have made all the settings for MS Family Account and XBox, so it can connect.

While searching, I looked at videos on Youtube and noticed that the start screen looks different. In the videos I always see single player, then multiplayer. My daughter's game doesn't have the buttons.

I suspect slowly that the girlfriend has activated no port forwarding in the LAN.

But before I jump into the topic, my question:

Do I have to set up a server so that the 2 can play together or can my daughter start a world and the girlfriend can join?

I have a bit of a suspicion that the problem lies with the Standard Edition versus the Java Edition and that they need a real server.

You can't play together with the Java version and the MC: PE version. Both are incompatible with each other.

Me

It's much, much easier, an Aternos server makes. It is free and always takes about 10 minutes to boot up. So both can play on one world. Both can also turn it on via the console, because if you go off the server, the server goes off. (Saves everything)

The Bedrock Edition and Java Edition are not directly compatible with each other.

But there's a detour to let these versions play together.

But you would need two servers for that. Both would then have installed different server software.

For someone who is not really familiar with this matter, this could be a bit difficult.

However, if you wish, I can explain to you how both can play together without incurring additional costs

Pr

Bedrock version, not PE. But the core message is correct.

Th

First, the Java Edition is the Standard Edition, not the other way around.

There are many differences between the Java and Bedrock editions.

Advantages of Java:

Create your own resource packs and use them for free
Modifications possible
Possibility to program your own clients
Significantly more options in commands
More server options and available server systems

Advantages of Bedrock:

Easy to understand
Good for beginners
Everything can be set directly in the world settings, no commands required
More pre-made maps, resource packs and other templates (but also for a fee)

Yes, there has recently been an opportunity to play together.

But this is only possible via a proxy server and is very complex and still full of errors, and a Minecraft server is already that complicated enough. There are also many settings here. I don't think a beginner would be able to do that, you're proud to have a normal server.

I would recommend simply buying the Java Edition because it is (currently) much better and is used by a lot more players.

However, much more work is being done on the Bedrock version (the one from the store) and there are constant improvements. It is very likely that the Bedrock version will be better in a few years. At the moment this is not the case.

I'm quite fit in information technology, so I would be very grateful for an explanation.

Aternos is a fine thing, but there's also a distinction between Bedrock and Java

Me

True, if they have the same version it is the best way and that every OG in Mc uses. But unfortunately I can't help with 2 different versions.

Bedrock = PE

Pr

If so, it is the Win10 Edition on the PC. With the PE Edition you only confuse the already unsuspecting questioner because he will only come across the mobile phone version of that time.

If you're still looking for an answer, I've got one for you:

The two versions of the game (Java, the original, which only works on the computer, and Bedrock, the version which was written for all other platforms, mobile phones, consoles, etc.) are not compatible with each other.

As can be seen from the other answers, it is possible in a roundabout way, but very complicated.

The easiest and best solution is that both people buy the Minecraft Java Edition so that they can play together on one platform. This is not a compromise, because modifications, plugins, texture packs, etc. Make the Java edition enjoyable for much longer.

If both have the same version, they can use their own server, e.g. Play together via Aternos or on a public server (of which there are MUCH more on Java).
