No, why should that work? Your progress will be saved on your Xbox / Playstation account. The Rockstar Account is only optional for the free Elegy or for the opportunity to join crews.

That was because they were new platforms that didn't exist before. When GTA V came out, the Ps4 / Xbox One didn't exist and for the PC the game came out a few years later. Because people wanted to play GTA, of course, they had to start on the older platforms. A PC player had to play on a console back then and of course wants to switch to the PC as soon as possible. And the Ps3 / Xbox 360 just couldn't handle the game anymore.
The xbox 360 and ps3 still grabbed the game without any problems.

Did you play the game on the Old Gen? The console was reaching its limits. She certainly didn't take it easy. A few months ago I dug out my Ps3 just for fun and was shocked myself. Never remembered the game so ugly. The leap from Ps3 to Ps4 was huge.

It just seemed like that. Neither the Ps3 nor the Ps4 could have coped with another update in GTA, which is why Rockstar started only to bring out updates for the Next Gen so early.

I didn't start with that in the middle. That was my statement from the start. The console has barely packed the game and especially not if new updates had come.
And in the current state, the game still doesn't manage it without any problems. Falling below 30 FPS is never "easy" in life.
