I got an Xbox

and on my gamertag there's a # with a number behind it and when I look at the other names I find that they don't have that. Can you get this # off somehow? I have already tried to make a new gamertag but get a # with a number

You have to go to the official Xbox site and then to your account, which is at the top right, you have to log in and you can change the name

The gamertag system has been revised for some time.

For example, many would like to have a short and crisp name because it is easier to read or simply sounds better. To accommodate this request, Microsoft has made a change in the naming. Someone who enters a desired name, but which is already being used by another user, will no longer see the sad message "Not available", but will instead receive a small identification code, also called a suffix, behind it.

Many already know something from Discord. A hashtag and 4 numbers. Individually.

So everyone can have their unique desired name, but can still be correctly identified if someone is looking for it or playing a game with you.

The suffixes are not displayed in friend lists. You don't see your friends' there (if they have any) and they don't see yours either.

If you do not want this suffix, you can of course change your gamertag at any time and choose a one that has not yet been taken.
