The console is perfect for beginners. Low entry costs and games usually run smoothly right away.

It also depends on whether you want to play on the monitor or TV and whether you want to use the mouse or controller.

Started on the laptop myself, then switched to the console and stayed there for many years.

You can't say what is "better". It depends on your personal taste.
I would tend to the PC, for example, but that's exactly how others can naturally prefer consoles.

On the PC, you have the advantage that you don't have to pay extra for certain online functions. In addition, the selection of games is definitely the largest here (free and games with price).
Then of course there's the difference between keyboard / mouse and controller. Here again personal taste, whereby I prefer the versatility of keyboard and mouse.

As I said, there's no ideal platform. In the best case, you would have the opportunity to try everything (e.g. Through friends) and then form your own judgment.

Another plus: Many PC games also support controllers

I would start on the PC.

But also depends on your environment. (Look at what friends, colleagues, acquaintances and relatives use and orient yourself)

But also have a look at which games you are particularly interested in. You can also determine what suits you best.

With a PC you can, if your budget allows it, play all games nicer, smoother and e.g. Shooter also better. (A mouse is much easier to aim)

Please do not buy your PC from Amazon but build and configure it yourself.

This usually saves money and you can pull more performance out of your budget.

If it should be a console, I would wait a bit for the release of the latest X-box or Playstation. With consoles you have to pay extra to play online at all…

How much do you want to spend on your setup?

PS: You can also connect a controller to your PC and play with it.

As a PC player, you unfortunately can't play with people who have a Ps4 or an X-Box.

In my opinion, the PC is always better. You can also connect a controller to the PC. Configure your PC yourself and do not buy on Amazon. Hardware advice or hardware deal also have good deals. Games you have to watch what you like, for example on YouTube or ask your friends what they play and then play it together. For example, I play Minecraft PVP on GommeHD.net, Anno 1800, Rocket League, and occasionally fortnite with friends every 2 to 3 weeks.

Since you are just starting out with gaming, a ps4 / xbox would be suitable in my opinion, but it depends on your budget, because a gaming pc can be expensive. Both have their advantages but you can play the same games on both devices on the pc then they have better quality and everything but at the beginning a ps4 is enough I think.
