More and more people want to gamble on the go, which is why they buy mobile consoles, etc. I also belong to this breed, but somehow I can't decide between the Nintendo Switch and my Galaxy S20 Ultra!
What do you all mean?
By the way, I'm now referring to games that run on both devices: e.g. Fortnite, Minecraft, etc.
I would like to say that my Galaxy S20 Ultra (despite the less powerful Exynos 990) probably has a lot more power than the Switch. However, the games are optimized for the Switch, which is why they mostly run better and more reliably on it. After all, the hardware and software of the Switch can be perfectly coordinated, which is of course not possible with a "universal Android device". After all, the Switch is made for gaming and even has fans.
However, what bothers me a lot about the Switch is that the display quality is so bad. Of course, I know that a manufacturer like Nintendo has to make savings somewhere, but if I compare the display with that of my cell phone, it's just a disaster. In terms of size, the panels are roughly the same (although I prefer the format of the Switch), but the resolution alone is worlds better with WQHD + on the S20 (the Switch only has 720p). I don't think I have to say anything about the refresh rate 120 vs 60 hz (although only 30 fps is usually possible on the switch). In my opinion, the colors and the general quality of the display technology of the Ultras make the difference. While the Switch has a horrible LCD with an annoying backlight, the Samsung has an incomparable OLED panel, which in my opinion no other manufacturer can do better in this form factor: Here unbelievably strong and bright colors are combined with a perfect black.
But also when it comes to controllers, I think that the switch is at the back: because while I can't even really grab these microscopic joy-cons, I found the perfect alternative for my S20 with the Glap controller.
But what is more important now? The performance and the details of the presentation, or the better display and more comfortable "handling"?
You don't buy Nintendo for the console, but for the games it offers.
Think about what you want to gamble and choose accordingly.
In the end, it is your decision which platform you like better.
In my opinion, the technical details of a console are relatively irrelevant as long as the games are right. And even if I had an extremely powerful smartphone, I wouldn't even know what to play with on it.
There are, of course, a handful of high quality titles out there on the mobile market, but that bears no relation to the selection on the Switch to me.
