Are Nintendo DS and 3DS the same?

Hi, I bought a used Nintendo DSi on eBay a few days ago. As I found out, with DSi you can only play Nintendo DS games. At the moment I decide for a Pokemon game that is suitable for beginners. I have read in forums that are particularly suitable sun and moon. I just watched a Pokemon Moon Let's Play on YouTube and I like it very much. However, that was played on the 3DS. Now my question: Is Pokemon Moon or Nintendo games generally the same on the Nintendo DS as on the 3DS and only differ from the system they are compatible with?

3ds and Ds games can be played on the 3ds. On the Ds GBA and Ds games and on the Dsi only Ds games

You can't play Pokemon moon on the DSi - this requires a console from the 3DS family

Yes, I know that and I have already written about the top of the question. My question is whether games that are compatible with the 3 DS differ in structure from those that are compatible with the DS and DSi. So for example if the Pokemon Moon for 3 DS is very different from the one for DS or DSi.

There's no moon for the Dsi… The older games are already very different from the Moon. But moon is not good anyway. I would recommend you Heartgold or Platinum.

Oh okay shame I did not know. Thanks then I'll inform myself about another game

Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS are completely different consoles. The Nintendo 3DS is the successor to the Nintendo DS (much like Playstation 2 and Playstation 3)
The good thing about the 3DS, however, is that it is backward compatible and can therefore play the older DS games. Pokémon Sun & Moon are only available for the 3DS.
