Here is another example of these Nigeria scams on eBay Classifieds?

Yesterday I was contacted by an alleged buyer about my ad on eBay Classifieds. He apparently wanted the article (Playstation) for his son and asked me if I could send him pictures of the state of the console via Whatsapp. (Whatsapp or email is often preferred, as the scammers are usually quickly blocked by eBay classifieds)

I did that, but I immediately noticed the number (+18139220834), which can't be from Germany (you should already be careful here!)

I also noticed during the chat that the Pb was an attractive young lady who already looked foreign and that the German was not perfect (could be a bot's translation error)

In the further course of the chat, the person asked for my e-mail after I had given her my bank details despite the skepticism! What do you need them for?!

The address of the alleged buyer finally convinced me that I came across a fraudster here:

Name: James Sheriff

Address: 23, Lebanon street, dugbe ibadan.

State: Oyo state

Country: NIGERIA

Why should someone from Nigeria buy a console from Germany of all places?! High shipping costs, high customs fees, long waiting times, …

Furthermore, the person sent me MORE money than we agreed! (20 euro more). But this was not directly on my account, but she had apparently already deposited it somewhere at her bank and as soon as I would confirm with my tracking number that I had sent it, I would get the money (Obviously fake, since banks don't do that, only possible with PayPal Buyer Protection, which also costs fees)

And last but not least: The confirmation email from the fake bank with a fake email address, which tells me that my money has been deposited for me and that I should now send the package!

Take good care of people, they are professionals!

I would almost have fallen for it if I hadn't asked Google beforehand where there are many such stories.

If you've given these people like me your bank details, you may see unwanted direct debits on your account. Then you should have this direct debit canceled as soon as possible (it's free).

Watch out for eBay classifieds as this type of incident has been particularly rampant recently. And it is best to only send within Germany and of course only as soon as you see the money in your account!

Thank you, that is the reason why I actually only offer pick-up or if you paid in advance with PayPal.

When I wanted to sell my scooter back then it was the same:

A man from Sweden really wanted the scooter but the man from the mail order company would pay for it in cash after the invitation.

Is clear.
