I didn't quite understand the backward compatibility on the PS5. It's up to the publishers to decide whether there will be an upgrade to the PS5. But Playstation CEO Jim Ryan said the vast majority of the 4000 PS4 games are backward compatible. Does that mean that I can insert my physical PS4 game CDs into the PS5 and play if it is backwards compatible or that I have to download the game digitally from the PS5 store. With digital games, it will likely be that you download them from the store. I also want to sell my PS4. I have heard that the games are only backwards compatible after an update or something. Do I still need the PS5 or can I sell it? And can you also use the DualShock4 controller for the PS5?
Summarized again:
1. How does backward compatibility work with physical PS4 game CDs?
2. Do I still need my PS4?
3. Can you also use the PS4 controller with the PS5?
First one to make it clear.
These "4000 games" that many claim to get on Ps5 due to backward compatibility are not true.
There are only 100 games, these are only exclusive games, i.e. Titles like Minecraft, Assassin's Creed and and are not backwards compatible for the time being.
Physical discs are probably not supported by the Ps5 at all, since not every game supports backward compatibility, and if so you would get a worse version of Ps4 on the Ps5.
2. Do I still need my PS4?
You may still need the Ps4.
Nobody can tell you that yet
3. Can you also use the PS4 controller with the PS5?
Yes you can, is not recommended.
Um, I think you messed things up too. As far as I know, Sony has said that the majority of the 4000 PS4 games are backward compatible and that the top 100 games will be available for the PS5 when the PS5 is launched.
Source?
I understood that differently.
They are testing (!) The 4000 games for backward compatibility.
I have never read that the majority of them should actually be compatible:
The PS4 games can be played on the PS5.
But the titles are not fundamentally compatible.
First, they have to be checked individually. Sony is happy with the progress.
Features of the PS5 include backward compatibility with PS4 games. However, this does not mean that every previous game on the current console can automatically be tackled on the successor. Rather, every single game has to be checked.
Accordingly, Sony and the developers have been busy testing the more than 4,000 games from the PS4 library for compatibility.
While no really new details were given at the recent PS5 event, Jim Ryan, PlayStation CEO, emphasized in a recent interview that the process is progressing well.
Sony has so far said that 100 PS4 games will be playable on release, more are to follow, with many games one has to hope for the publisher.
Nobody knows how many more could follow.
