Minecraft on ps4 Bedrock?

I'm playing minecraft on ps4 with my friends and I've tried some automatic farms. But where nothing grows. A pumpkin farm and a sugar cane farm. The sugar cane farm is completely unearthly and without a roof and the pumpkin is underground. Maybe someone knows the problem and can help

With sugar cane I have the problem that it takes forever, I think it grows faster on sand.

If you have illuminated the pumpkin farm enough, try glowstone, as far as I know, plants need a certain level of brightness to grow

So that would not work with sand I've already tried it, because underneath a truck drives at the farm. And with normal farms, it grows every minute
