Is it dangerous if someone knows my IP address?

I played Rainbow Six Siege today. Right at the beginning, two Germans approached me and said I should find out their IP address. I didn't answer and then they sent an IP address to the chat. I don't know if it was mine. Then you have the country where I live and which state. Then they could also list how I'm on Steam, Twitch etc… However, the Steam name was out of date for about 2 months. Then they wrote an IP address in the chat. You said that this number and the IP number of my computer are different. I then gedisconected.

Should I be worried? How did you get it out?

Your IP address can be found almost anywhere, you are not really safe anywhere, unless you have a VPN.

You don't have to worry, it's just little Kevins who wanted to play

Answer for laypersons: "No, it's not dangerous!" (If you are sitting behind a firewall, have installed a clever virus scanner and are using the latest Windows.)

No, with a Public IP or IPv4 address the idiots can't do anything except a DDoS attack, but most routers have flood protection.

It's easy to find out with Wireshark, no need to worry.

You can have the router give you a new IP at any time in the menu. Or with DSL I think a restart is enough.
