Good idea to be an illustrator or a gaming channel?

I'm somehow stuck in my professional career because of Corona, I'm a trained cook and real estate agent and currently work for my father in the company. But yes, I don't want to work there forever, I would like to do artist / illustrator, and maybe because I also like gaming a lot, a YT or Twitch channel so that I can reach someone there. But right now I don't really know how to go about it. I really love drawing and would like to finally do my own projects, what do you think? Good idea or bad idea? And yes…

Honestly? Do it! You only live once and what speaks against it? If you decide yes, then I wish you the best of luck!

I'm very young anyway and I'm still scared and doubted in March

Every creative profession consists of 10% talent and 90% craft + practice. You have to have the talent, you learn the craft either in a FH degree or as a teaching profession. I studied communication design at a university of applied sciences. In this course you can also specialize in illustration. Allow 4-5 years for the study including internship and graduation.

My tip: do an internship for half a year first. Most universities of applied sciences require this anyway, and it is a good decision-making aid.

But there are also people who have taught themselves through courses and workshops. You don't always have to go the academic route

That's true. However, these people have a harder time getting a job. However, one must also note that almost all illustrators work as freelancers. Very few employers (e.g. Agencies, publishers, game manufacturers) can use an illustrator full-time. For a permanent position, such employers are looking for people who can work in a variety of ways and have more to offer than just illustration. And people with a university degree have a clear advantage here.

I've heard something else but if I would, I'd want to work as a freelancer anyway
