Playing Minecraft with friends for dummies?

Dear potential helpers,

my question has certainly been answered in detail in other posts - but unfortunately I don't understand the answers completely.

I want to help my daughter play Minecraft with a friend from another network.

The two have already connected as friends via Xbox Live. Now my daughter's girlfriend has sent an invitation to play. When we click this invitation, we end up in the Microsoft Store to download the game. We already have the Java Edition. Can the reason for the forwarding to the store be that the girlfriend has a Microsoft variant? If both girls use the same expenses - can they play together? Or do you still need realms?

It would be great if there were someone here who could explain this to me in a very technical way. I really have no idea.

The two of course would have to use the same edition. I would very much recommend the java edition to everyone, with it it is really very easy to play with each other.

1. Do you play on a console or a PC?

2. Both players need the same version of Minecraft to play with each other

3. If both are on the console you need realm to my knowledge (I'm not a PC user)

4. But if both play on the PC you only need the same version

With the java edition I would recommend the largest network in Europe, GommeHD.net. There's a huge range of game modes on the server where you can find all kinds of Minecraft. You can access the server in the main menu via 'Merhplayer' → 'Add Server'

Name: GommeHD.net

IP address: gommehd.net

Everything else is directly explained by the third party, further information is available on the website. (gommehd.net)

If all of this works, I would like to point out that at the moment almost all larger Minecraft servers are very busy, and you can hardly get to the network without the premium fee-based rank at peak times. However, there are plenty of alternatives to GommeHD.net, for example:

play.hivemc.com
hypixel.net
neruxvace.net

Good morning and thanks for the answers!

PC and laptop are used.

Well. Then we will first compare the editions afterwards.

Are there any additional costs, for example for the use of a server? Or just the price of buying the identical edition?
