How can I play games on the iPad, i.e. Which controller and can I also play car races or soccer against each other?

Ordered a new iPad and would like to play a bit with it - have no playsi or the like.

I already have a dongle for my TV - there are cool games in the AppStore…

But HOW do I play that? Would like to gamble with a controller - read the Dual Shock or go from the XBox - but they are very expensive…

Is there a good cheaper alternative?

And can I also gamble against my son - that is, connect 2 controllers?
