Brand new consoles broken?

Is it true that video game consoles like the playstation or xbox are often broken on their release day? I often heard on YouTube that you should wait until you buy a new console. Is that correct?

On Youtube there are "Painful Launch" videos, as errors are often shown. In general, however, one can say that errors rarely occur in comparison to the units sold. Increasingly, however, at the beginning because of "teething problems" that will be ironed out with the next revision.
