Why is modding not possible?

I play on the PC myself but I'm interested in why it is not possible to modd on the PS4 and xbox one. On the PS3 and xbox 360 it went as far as I know but why not on the PS4 and xbox one? What is it preventing? Do you think it will work better on the PS 5?

Mo

With Windows you can play around with the files at will. This has the advantage that you can mod, but also the disadvantage that everyone can easily install cheats and hacks.

With consoles, the operating system is a closed environment that prevents this. As a result, the systems run more stable and the game files can't be modified. Therefore, there are no hackers on the current consoles.

To avoid this, you need a jailbreak that is practically non-existent for current consoles, at least not suitable for everyday use.

I'm personally very grateful for that, the hacker-free lobbies are a luxury that you can only appreciate again when you think back to PS3 times. Many are out there with a jailbreak and ruin the multiplayer with their hacks.

Fortunately, this will not change on the PS5.

It would probably already be "possible". However, very good hardware is required for modding. The requirements for creating the mods are much higher than for "just apply". The hardware of the PS4 / Xbox One was actually outdated when it was released.

Many games also require a Creation Kit or similar tools, which are usually provided by the game developer. Without this it is difficult or even impossible to create mods. (This mostly applies to the larger titles)

There are probably a whole bunch more reasons than this.

So far I agree, but hacker lot is not quite right. Hackers can also be found on the consoles, although not nearly as many as on the PC

Mo

Have never met anyone in almost 7 years. Never seen one in a stream.

I can't guarantee there aren't, but the number should be close to zero.

Where have you seen one yourself?

Mo

There are tons of hackers on the PS3 and the hardware is only a fraction of the performance of a PS4.

Av

GTA 5, or online and dark souls (even if it could have been with dark souls lags)

Av

Didn't express myself correctly, sorry. The hardware that is required for modding is sometimes considerably higher than that required for playing the mod or the game. That is at least on the PC, but depending on the game and the (type of) mod

Ut

It is / was possible to modd on Ps4. Due to the jailbreak, however, it was no longer possible to interact online. The Youtuber Dub11n managed to install a modmenu for GTA 5 but only for story.

Mo

Just. You quickly suspect someone as a hacker if something seems suspicious.

I remember PS3 times: There were hackers with aimbot (crosshairs move from one enemy to the next automatically), wallhack (with shots through walls), opponents framed in red, getting 100,000 times the amount of XP for a kill - THAT are real hackers!

Av

And the immortal guy in GTA Online.

So

The godmode people at GTA are often glitcher. Unfortunately GTA has a new godmode glitch with every update: /

Mo

Thanks for the addition. Glitching and chopping are two completely different things, even if the result is sometimes similar.
