Black Wii U console with white gamepad use?

I'm faced with the decision to buy a black or a white Wii U. Since the black Wii U has a larger storage space than the white one, I thought that it would actually have to work to buy a black console (with more storage space) and separately a white gamepad (nicer and cheaper). Because the space is indeed on the console and not in the gamepad. So is that how I think so? Or are not compatible with each other?

However, a gamepad is not compatible is never the case.

Both have same technique etc.
