Mario Kart 8 shop?

I recently got Mario Kart8 for the Nintendo Switch. I played several Grand Prix and finished first. After each Grand Prix, I was shown the rewards I received: a vehicle part and coins. My first question is what are these coins good for? I did a bit of research and got Toads Shop as one of many answers, is there such a shop?

Version 2.0 of the shop has been integrated in the main menu, but only contains content that can be purchased for money. Coins in the game have only an indirect meaning and no active use.

If you drive a race, coins found during the race increase your maximum speed. This goes up to 10 coins. This effect disappears after the race.

Across games, the total number of coins found unlocks new vehicle parts. For example, after a total of 50 or 300 coins have been collected, you will receive vehicle parts for individual adaptation.
