Why was there a strong console war and intolerance among gamers back then?

Back then with Nintendo Wii, XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 (in the beginning many still had the Playstation 2 because the Playstation 3 was still too expensive) times there was a strong console war between gamers.

The people who owned an XBOX 360 said that all the gamers who like Sony and have a Playstation 2 or 3 are stupid and they don't want anything to do with them.

Again, the people who owned a Playstation 2 or 3 said that all gamers who own an XBOX 360 are stupid too and you don't want to have anything to do with them.

The gamers who owned an XBOX 360 or a Playstation 2 or 3 were also of the opinion that all gamers who only own a Nintendo console would only play children's games and would be childish.

Again, the gamers who only owned a Nintendo console were of the opinion that all gamers who own a Playstation 2 or 3 or XBOX 360, only play ego-shots or games with an age rating of 18 and over, also feel cool, that they would play these games and also behave anti-social.

At that time I owned some Gameboy models (Classic, Pocket, Color and Advance SP), a Nintendo 64 (unfortunately I didn't have any good games for it), a Nintendo DS Lite and a Playstation 2. I was very tolerant towards other gamers and I didn't care what console I or someone else owns.

My brother, on the other hand, had actively played with his XBOX 360 during that time and in the past had a Super Nintendo, the first Playstation and Playstation 2, as well as the first XBOX, all of which he had sold.

At some point, when the XBOX One and the Playstation 4 came on the market, the whole thing with the console war and the intolerance subsided.

You forgot the PC players. But it doesn't matter.

Actually, these arguments still exist today. Very few gamers can tell from their own experience which console is best suited for which game.

Most of them just babble without really being able to justify anything.

Perhaps that was because the Xbox360 was really competitive with the ps3. A genera later, many Xbox players may have switched to ps4, and therefore there were fewer people who got into quarreling about it. Would be my guess.

I also look at each new generation to see what suits me better and also found the 360 significantly better than the ps3

It still exists, maybe a little less, but there's often still a "war" between the PC and the console, to put it in an exaggerated way.

Thanks to crossplay and other functions, however, much less because you can play with people who have different consoles / PCs.

We also have a few jumping jacks on the Discord who don't want to play with PC players.

Yes, that's right, my brother e.g. Is also switched from the XBOX 360 to the Playstation 3 and later bought a Playstation 4.

He had sold his Playstation 4 once and then got the XBOX One, but after a while he also sold his XBOX One and bought the Playstation 4 again 😂

My cousin (now 16 years old) had an XBOX 360 when he was a child and later got a Playstation 4.

Then I also had a former classmate who never liked Sony and who owned an XBOX 360 and some Nintendo consoles. Later, when the XBOX One and Playstation 4 were up to date, he simply bought a gamer PC.

You have already recognized it yourself, relatively close to the hardware.

From PS4 / XBox One onwards, at least Microsoft and Sonx had very similar hardware levels at the base, which were even technically very close to the x86 PC platform in AMD base technology, which was related on a uniform basis. Before that, the whole savhe in "cross-platforming" looked a lot different during development.

In this regard, Nintendo has outlived itself in several ways. Despite the fact that the hardware basis is still fundamentally different from MS, Sony and PC, Nintendo has further developed its own gaming series on its console, some of them considerably graphically, functionally and in terms of content.

Nintendo 2.0, however, has retained its status as a "sideshow-goer", still keeping a completely family-friendly platform on the market without exceptions to extremes.

Even in 2021 I will not criticize NES in terms of its concept, especially since the thing in itself has remained a relative evergreen in the existing base games, even across generations.
