Why does the Nintendo Switch have so much power?

The power of the switch is only in the small tablet. The dock e.g. Only serves for transmission. Of course it is clear to me that the performance does not come close to that of the PS4 or the Xbox one. However, I still find the power of the Switch very surprising, since it is only in this small tablet. I wonder why normal Android tablets or ipads don't have that much power. After all, the Switch is a lot smaller than a current Ipad Pro and still has more power. For example, you can play "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" on it, which would be unthinkable on a tablet! Why are not so powerful tablets for gaming produced? In theory, that should be possible, right?!

Le

On the one hand you have to say that the iPad (Pro) is now on par with mid-range laptops in terms of performance and the switch with the outdated hardware is a long way from that.

You also have to keep in mind that most tablets use Android and therefore mostly use ARM processors → i.e. The games would have to be readjusted → not worthwhile for the developers because the profit margin is not large

many current cell phones are actually faster than the switch

Va

What you want is a gamertablet and Google times "Acer Gaming tablet" then you get the beasts you want. Are only enormously expensive and do not correspond to the market, is still uncharted territory and is too unprofitable for manufacturers and game developers

Le

Because games for the switch only have to run exactly on the switch. Can absolutely and directly adapt the game to the hardware of the switch. Use every hardware command and every byte perfectly.

A classic tablet with classic Android can have a wide variety of CPUs, GPUs and memory amounts. This means that the game has to be encoded more generally → rs is not so well optimized → it needs more hardware performance to achieve the same display.

This is the same reason why an Xbox can play so well for 399 euro. A PC for 399 euro would probably not be able (for more money, of course, you get a much better PC - but that's a completely different discussion)

Po

After all, the Switch is a lot smaller than a current Ipad Pro and still has more power.

Nonsense, how do you figure that out?

In fact, the iPad Pro is far more powerful, more comparable to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One than the Switch…

In addition, the switch may be a bit more compact than the 11 "iPad Pro, but it is more than twice as thick.

Al

If you e.g. PS2 games or Wii games on current high-end smartphones play, jerky and lay often on an emulator. Is that because the entire hardware of the console is quasi emulated? Mobile phone hardware is actually a lot more than the hardware of consoles in the 2000s, right?

Al

Now I do not understand anything anymore. So does that mean you can play 60 FPS on an Ipad Pro GTA 5 in 4k?

Po

No, because GTA V was not released for i (Pad) OS.

Not for the switch either.

Al

So that means that you could play GTA 5 on a cell phone in theory, but it will not be adapted for Android and IOS because the effort is too great?

Al

How strong is the performance of such tablets? Stronger than a PS4 e.g?

ad

Emulation costs many times more power, you can say a factor of 10 to 20 times depending on the emulator.

Po

Google times "Acer Gaming tablet" then you get the beasts you want

So when I google it, I find expensive PC convertibles - otherwise just an older tablet with a weak Intel Atom chip.

Rather, don't think that's really what the questioner is aiming for…

Po

Exactly.

Al

But would it be theoretically possible to play GTA 5 on a good Android / IOS device? Maybe it was just not worth it for the publisher to bring a new andr./ios version?!

Po

Sure, no question. It doesn't fail in terms of performance.

When GTA V was developed, it was of course very different. That was a few years ago… Accordingly, a version for mobile devices was certainly not even thought of at the time.

Al

And for the reasons I gave?

Le

Yes exactly. A cell phone has a lot more power than a Playstation 2. But the Playstation 2 has a completely different CPu architecture, so it has to be completely emulated in software! And emulation is just slow.

ho

Most tablets and smartphones have more power, the power from the switch comes from a tekra 1k from Nvidia, which is very old, but was very powerful at the time, but for 2 years the current smartphone has had more power, but the difference is that Performance in the switch can be better used by the software, the players can be optimized precisely and the switch can keep the performance better by the cooler

Va

No idea why this is so cumbersome. "Acer Predator 8" is a bit older. I originally meant it. Here link for the video to the current

and NO I did not mean the convert things and no, of course, the gaming tablets have no stronger performance than the gaming tablets.

these are the current tablets that are suitable for gamers

Va

Oh I tried to find it again, but I don't find it. Since I recently saw a current Youtuber, I don't know if it was Alexibexi. Or Felixba no idea there was a current tablet for gaming that could be connected to the monitor, as well as connecting a mouse and using an external controller. The name net comes to mind more sorry
