License for. And Co?

There are some games that have TWO publishers and I wanted to ask if you have to have a license from both publishers.

It's about Nintendo: you can play now without a license

And Ubisoft: I still haven't checked the license.

The game: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Ubisoft and Nintendo developed this game.

Jo

What kind of license? Could you elaborate on that?

Ir

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was only published outside of Asia by Ubisoft.

Apart from that, both Ubisoft and Nintendo now allow use in Let's Play formants.

The permission to upload the game on YouTube and co etc…

Ca

You can just play the game without a license, let's play! You don't need permission for this. You can simply play all video games and upload them to the internet!

Jo

You don't need permission…

Av

This is exactly my problem.

I don't understand this permission from Ubisoft, it says DO NOT use assets, i.e. Voice, music, etc.

Below is also that you should ask the people who composed the music yourself whether you can use it in your letsplay.

I don't understand Ubisoft's.

Av

That's right, but I want to advertise, that can only be done with permission or newer rules.

Ab

The only thing I know about the music is that you can't use it… Chris from UbisoftNews mentioned that again recently in a stream from Ubisoft…

But you should actually be able to use the voice without any problems as far as I know…

Av

Yes, but how lets play YouTubers for example Domtendo Mario Rabbids kingdom Battle WITH THE ORIGINAL MUSIC?!

Ir

That with the assets refers to the use outside of Let's Play. For example, you are not allowed to simply take a logo or a character from the game and use it to decorate your website or channel or use the whole thing in other videos.

The problem with music is a bigger problem: Developers / publishers themselves only acquire usage rights to the music and can't necessarily pass them on. However, this rarely affects the specially composed soundtrack, but rather when music by well-known performers is used.

The part with "larger parts" of the game is intended to prevent someone without creative personal contribution from reproducing parts of the game. As a Let's Player, you create added value through comments, criticism or simply general entertainment. Someone who simply uploads all video sequences without comment, probably not.

If you do normal Let's Plays - that is, record yourself playing, talking or interacting in some other way, you are on the safe side.

Thank you very much 🙏🏻

Av

So now I should just have the original music in the game and without hesitation or do I have to write to the composer as a precaution?

Ir

I would assume there's no problem with the game. Of course you can always ask questions, but I don't see any reason. In most cases, YouTube would warn you in advance anyway if it detects such music via the ContentID system.

But as I said, it is more of a problem with games that use familiar songs. So nowadays they usually have a streamer / YouTube mode.

Av

One last question then I no longer nerve xD

Do you know where to find their emails?

So that I can write to you.

If not, not bad.

Nevertheless many thanks
