PS4 controller charging socket broken, charging possible with ext connection?

Hello from my ps4 controller, charging with the cable via the charging socket is no longer possible. I do not know whether it is due to the battery or the charging socket. I now wanted to order a charging station and then charge it via an external connection. My question is whether this is possible at all. Can you charge with the ext connection at all if the charging socket is broken? Is that possible? Otherwise, if that does not work, I guess the problem with the battery. I would then only have to change the battery.

So currently I also have a Ps4. When I used to have a WiiU, I also had a problem. The gamepad could no longer be loaded. It just turned out that it was the cable. I would give it a try with a new cable
