Do you need previous knowledge for the Assassins Creed game series?

I've been wondering if I should buy the PS4 game Assassin's Creed Odyssey. In itself, I find the game interesting, but since there are felt a thousand more parts, I wanted to ask you once, whether you need previous knowledge of the game. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is, as I've learned, the latest installment in the game series.

I myself started with the third part of the series and got on really well with it (but otherwise I almost never play it). You do not need any prior knowledge, the games are autonomous.
