What do raids and hosting bring to Twitch?

I've watched videos about it, but I don't really get it.

When I raide someone, I steal their views, I give them my views or how does it work and how is that supposed to help get attention.

You go to his channel with your channel. This gives you more views and attention. For you and your audience it is just a certain entertainment value. The same applies to hosting a direct benefit for you does not result from this.

So it doesn't work for me if I only have 1 view
