Is it free to register on Twitch? And / or do I have to pay later?
It is free to create an account on twitch or to register. After that you don't have to pay anything, it's free. The only paid one is twitch prime with which you can support streamers, but you don't have to buy it because without prime you can watch, stream and write in chat as normal.

You can also watch Twitchstreams without having to register. But if you want to write in chat, follow streamers or write whisper messages, you need an account. You can create one for yourself (with no hidden costs) by clicking on Register. There's only a fee if you voluntarily decide to leave a donation / cheer for a streamer or even to subscribe. The subscription will not automatically renew unless you set it up.
