Why don't you see console games that run at 30 FPS and on the PC you can see every frame differently?

So e.g. Red Dead Redemption 2 runs on the consoles (Xbox and PS4) with 30 FPS and looks pretty smooth and playable. But if I play the same game on the PC at 30 FPS, it is impossible.

Does anyone know the reason why this is or you can somehow even play smoothly on the PC with 30 FPS.

Please do not explain what FPS are, I already know, thanks.

Al

In most cases, consoles run at 60 FPS.

ca

That is not completly correct. PC only appears to you because the rate is not consistently uniform. Set a frame limiter to 30 or 40 and it works the same way.

Drops or fluctuations in the FPS are the problem and since the PC is not optimized, it inevitably has more than any console.

Pr

That's not true at all, but ok.

Va

I believe that this is due to the motion blur that is still present when it has been switched off in the settings.

Red Dead Redemption in particular may not be the best example. The title is rather leisurely compared to many others. The reduced speed also means that less FPS is not particularly noticeable.

Even on the PC, you usually don't notice a frame or two more or less. What you notice more are sudden jumps in which the rate increases by several frames and then drops again. You also play on the PC with a mouse rather than a gamepad. This enables you to carry out faster and more precise control inputs. A tightening / delay is immediately noticeable, which would not be the case with control via stick. In addition, graphic effects such as motion blur - concealed by most people directly on the PC - conceal smaller inconsistencies.

And clearly you can also play on the PC with 30 FPS and in many cases still perceive it as fluid. In my youth I was often forced to experience pain tolerance at 25 FPS even when playing action games when the titles were just playable and just felt a little tougher than with friends. Nevertheless, if possible, I would today no longer make any settings that prevent at least 40 FPS from being guaranteed at all times, in order to avoid precisely these small errors in the input.

That's why I'm asking. My worldview broke when I found out that consoles run at 30 fps

Pa

So should I limit my frame rate to 30 so that I can make games that are not stable with me playable?

am

The consoles are limited to 30 FPS in most games and adapted to look and run smoothly. They do everything that usually remains steadfast and the player does not notice anything.

For example, if you go from the PC 60 FPS to the console, you will notice how the console has less and that there are only 30. After about a few minutes this feeling disappears and it looks fluid because you have got used to it and it looks quite fluid for you.

every time after changing you will notice the difference

so much for that 🙃

on the PC you notice the 30 FPS because they always fluctuate and it is also because the PCs are not optimized like the consoles to the smallest, that the 30 FPS are observed. This fluctuates on the PC. As a result, you don't notice the 30FPS on the PC and the console.

am

That's not true at all. The new consoles will achieve 60 FPS in all games just not the current ones because that is only in very rare games.

Pr

Yes, most games run on consoles at 30fps simply because they can't do it anymore. That may change with the new ones, but it also depends on what the developers do with the hardware. So far, the consoles are too weak for most games. Or some developers just do 30fps from the start in order not to have to worry about optimization.

Pr

There's absolutely no guarantee that the new consoles will run all games at 60fps.

am

Yes, that will be said so far, let's see how it will end up, I think they will make it. The hardware says a lot. You only have to wait in the end.

I hold back on every assumption until these things are out. Until then, everything is just speculation, wishes and rumors.
