Minecraft Angel / Fischfarm current (1.14.60) Win10?

I have reproduced the fish farm exactly as described on Youtube. It just doesn't work somehow. Either the bait lands under the pressure plate or you only hear a bent splash without what is fished.

If I aim exactly between the trapdoor and the pressure plate, the hinge does not eject.

Is the fish farm still up to date or is it no longer possible or what am I doing wrong?
