You can be helped. With the headset connected and switched on, open the guide. Now right to the gear. I think if your headset is connected to the controller via a cable you will already find a menu with various sliders. Otherwise, go to Settings, General, Volume and Audio Devices and there you will find all chat-relevant settings on the far left.
