What happens if you forget that you have to buy xbox live gold cards?

Wil get me xbox live gold card and sometimes I think I don't have enough time to get an xbox live gold card what happens then the subscription is simply gone or how?

I think your XBL Gold subscription 'rests' until you recharge it. You just can't gamble online or download the Games with Gold games.
