Protection from hackers on consoles?

I'm a 15 year old boy and I like to play on my xbox. Well, I was at a party recently and there were self-proclaimed hackers. They said they can know where I live, have my IP address, and can boot me. After 2 minutes I no longer had Wi-Fi. I don't want to be offered anything like that anymore and therefore I would like to know how I can protect myself from something like this and how to attack back. (I already have a VPN)

It wasn't a hacker haha he just connected his laptop or PC to his Xbox via lan and then all IP's from party, game etc. Are displayed.
