I would like to play VR games at home.
Actually, I'm not a gamer at all and know my way around.
What exactly do I have to buy to play VR games with friends right now? There are so many offers.
So if you want to gamble with friends, you should get the same thing your friends have. If they don't have anything either, it's actually up to you what you take. I've never heard of VR for Xbox before. The Playstation VR isn't bad, but doesn't have as many games as it does on the PC. A VR for the PC is more expensive than one for the Ps4, but it has significantly more games and the possibility to play games with mods. You then have to make sure that the PC is good enough. The best VR glasses on the market are currently the Valve Index. In a complete package with glasses, 2 controllers, 2 cameras and the Half Life Alyx game, it costs 1079 euro. There's also the Oculus Rift S, which costs around 500 euro and is solid VR glasses. If you don't have a console or a PC, there's still the Oculus Quest. It doesn't need a PC at all, just an app and should cost about as much as the Rift S.
Hi, thanks for the great summary. I would like to just play with friends in the living room. E.g. Two or four people. Then I have to buy the other consoles in addition, right?
Oh, thought you mean online with friends. If everyone wants to play at the same time, you would have to have a corresponding number of consoles or VR glasses there (and of course the space). But if you always want to take turns, glasses would be enough. Would recommend the Oculus Quest. And if everyone wants to play at the same time, it would be better if everyone is at home. So everyone should have more space and you can simply talk and play with each other over the Internet.
There are some games that offer crossplay functionality, but the consensus is pc with pc and ps4 with ps4. Xbox has no VR support.
As for the Hmd's as such, it depends on your needs.
Basically, all games can be played together using the Pc HMDs, but there are also minor exceptions here (temporal exclusivity or programming).
Here is a list of the most common HMDs.
