I would basically like to get into virtual reality, but I'm slain by the variety of VR glasses (Microsoft Mixed Reality / other PC based goggles like Facebook Rift & HTC Vive / Playstation VR / Standalone like Facebook Go and Quest).
I'm not interested in AR, that's why I left them out. The new eyewear from Facebook are pretty cheap, but I wonder how much Potantial have, what applications can you do with it? In the "Go" you can certainly look at panoramas, and watch movies in virtual cinema (or not?), But known games are probably impossible? It does not really reveal to me whether the device would only be in the corner after a few days, because you can hardly do anything meaningful with it, or if it makes any sense anyway. If you could at least watch movies, then you would be able to read from a memory card, or how does it work?
And then you can only look at content that can be found in the Facebook Store, or is it compatible with content that has been created for the PC-based glasses? I would like to know how the different systems are related to each other, so to be exact Microsoft glasses, the other for PC, and Go and Quest. In terms of uses, user experience, whether it is a "walled garden" and so on. I'm not into technical details like resolution and stuff.
The quest relates the store's go. Whether it will be possible to use the rift store title (let alone the steam title) is still unclear.
Accordingly, it is to be seen as a separate market of the go.
with the pc hmd's you can use a lot of games that bring long-term fun or just as you mentioned films or social media romp.
However, since you can't read what is important to you can't give you exactly a recommendation. Please say therefore exactly what you are looking for which application areas. If you see movies important then take the odysee (+).
autakes hmd with a sde filter (which unfortunately makes the picture sometimes spongy) for the price allering what confort and viewing a better device than the primax 5k is.
With the abbreviations like hmd or sde I do not really come along. I would most like to play PC games, such as racing games, Subnautica, Star Citizen, etc. It would also be nice to capture movement in space, not just the perspective, but I could make room for it. But I'm almost aware that I would then have to buy an expensive PC, since mine is at the bottom of the VR-enabled devices, so I had the idea to try out a model to choose, with the first only perform simpler tasks would be like watching movies.
I do not know what is meant by social media in the context, presumably something like Second Life? But that does not interest me at all.
But if I were content with movies, then the glasses would have to be a lot cheaper, the Odysee for $ 500 would be exaggerated. Is this sold at all? And has the disadvantages when playing, eg. Missing sensors?
So either I would be interested in glasses in the range of 200 euro, if I could use this only for virtual cinema with my existing films (does that work with the Go?), Or glasses for PC games up to maybe 500 euro.
Incidentally, my PC has a GTX 1060, 32 GB Ram, SSD, Windows 7.
Hmd is the head motion display (the headset)
The screen door effect (the columns between the individual pixels) looks like a fly screen
the games are ever on the pc so the safe way over the odysee or rift vive is probably less saved.
at racing games and generally good simulation, I would grab the odysee.
if you are more concerned with roomscale (move in space and capture 99% of hands and head) the vive
social media I count rec room, big screen, vr chat and similar programs that has a lot to do with mind-bending.
the odysee uses indoor out tracking. The only downside is if you keep your hands behind your head for longer than 1 sec without any movement. Otherwise, it's almost as good as a rift. Video are in the net enough to make a nice judgment. For example, archery with the odysee would not be possible.
yes with the go you can sit in the cinema room and watch a movie
the pc specs would be enough for most games. The drivers are getting better and better, which means less resources are needed.
I had thought as a video card, you would have to invest again in a 1080ti or something. But okay. I think that would bother me with the hand problem quite a bit, but I will search for videos.
