Most split-screen titles (local multiplayer) do not require Xbox Live Gold, in order to be able to play games such as Forza, Fortnite, Apex or the like online, you need an active Xbox Live Gold or an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership. The latter is highly recommended, as Xbox Live Gold and thus the online service is virtually included, and you get over 300 high-quality titles from publishers such as Bethesda, EA, Xbox Game Studios and co.

The service was also stolen back then. Microsoft released Xbox Live Gold back then and a few years later Sony suddenly had the same idea, with the same prices and the same concept, what a miracle.
