When should thermal paste be replaced?

Hi

I have had my PC since October 2018 and have not yet renewed the thermal paste.

Furthermore, I have had an Xbox One for (estimated) 5 years on which the thermal paste was not renewed. Is this even necessary with the xbox?

And when do we make it important for the pc?

Or

When she gets hard like mine

Hi

How do you notice that?

Or

Ouh now that's difficult hmm so it's hard

I would say they should be replaced every 2-3 years, depending on how much you use the PC.

Hi

So you can't notice it by not opening the pc?

Ma

But when it gets hard, the computer smells funny

Hi

What do you mean weird? Burned?

Ma

Rather so slightly sweet, maybe a bit burnt too, but you will notice that

I never renew the thermal paste. But this is also due to the fact that I replace my CPU every 4-5 years. Not because it was broken, but because of the performance. But I'm not a power user either, where the computer is driven to peak performance every day. It certainly makes sense to keep the distance a little shorter.

I've never renewed the paste on consoles. I have consoles here that have rattled on for 10-15 years without any problems.

I absolutely never do that.

I would only see the reason if the CPU gets too warm or the fan turns too high.

But this has never happened to me, even with my 8-year-old notebook, it's still pleasantly quiet.

Otherwise it certainly doesn't hurt to do this every 2-5 years, but most of the time you don't have hardware for too long anyway, so it doesn't happen too often that the WLP dries up badly.
