How long does the Battlefield 3 story last and are there any other modes for which you don't need an Xbox live?

Don't play that you can't take a step without causing any bug. BF3 is only online a good game of story mode is terrible.

The story mode lasts a good 6 hours. Otherwise there are no modes that go offline. Even the co-op campaign would need Xbox Live.
