Red Dead Online is currently in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and I'm just downloading the game.
My question is: I'm just downloading this and there's "Red Dead Redemption 2" in the queue at the Xbox. Does that mean that the main game will also be installed or will only the online mode Red Dead Online be installed?
Red Dead Online is online mode only
There's Red Dead Redemption 2 and there's Red Dead Online.

But since there's a standalone version of Red Dead Online, if you download Red Dead Online, it should only contain Red Dead Online.
Okay, it has now downloaded and I found out: The normal Red Dead Redemption 2 is installed, but the "Story" mode is grayed out in the menu and you are asked to buy it. You can access the online mode at any time.
Since the whole game is over 100GB in total for me, I believe that the entire game + story mode has been downloaded, but as I said, you can only use the online mode. I think if I bought the story package now, I wouldn't have to download anything extra.
It's a shame, last year the normal RDR2 was available, I was hoping to finally be able to continue playing. But well, I'll get it sometime when it's on sale.

But I can only warmly recommend the story of Red Dead Redemption 2 to you. You don't have to wait for a sale for that ;-)
