I belong to the 1997 vintage on the consoles of my childhood, so I'm a good 20 years old. I even have all of them back then. Anyone familiar with technology will know that sooner or later there will be problems with electronics or even the device will give up its mind. Do you think a ps2 or Xbox Classic will still be running in 20 years, or spare parts or repairs?
I'm aware that new consoles etc. Will appear by then, but it would be interesting to know what you think. Keeping childhood alive is, in my opinion, the best thing in life.
They will definitely run if nothing comes in between.
My PS2 is still operated in my parents' apartment as a DVD player. My two PS1 and my SNES still work.
Why twice the identical option to vote?
I still play with my PS2 and Xbox Classic every now and then and have been wondering the same thing.
I think it will be around for a long time. Eventually the price will increase over time as they become less common, but currently you can still buy them very cheaply.
Well "spare parts"… In consoles, components from normal computer construction are mainly used. So if you know a little bit about electronics and can solder, etc., you will still be able to repair something in the future…
The first time I started a survey I thought the blue was for yes the red / orange for no 🤨
Back then it was still quality, what you can still see today… In general, the technology from that time is slow and old. But it still works today… The somewhat more modern things are better and faster. But I hardly think that it can last for 40 years. Today is based on profit… Especially after 2 years (guarantee period) something should break.
You can also repair such consoles yourself. My Xbox gave up ghost last year after over 15 years. Just like my brother, who said it was probably the electrolytic capacitors (similar to batteries on the circuit board).
My c64 still runs after 35 years, the good old technology.
