Yes it is actually possible, I have already redeemed 2 Xbox One games on the 360 as a key. You can also do it on your smartphone: Download the Xbox app, log in, go to the "Microsoft Store" menu, and then enter the key under "Redeem code". Then you have the game in your possession.
