Minecraft PC and Xbox crossplay?

So for about a year now it is possible that Pc people and xboxler play together. Is that synonymous with PC Windows 7, or must you have Windows 10?

The Xbox and Windows version can play together, is solely because the Windows 10 and Xbox version (along with Android iOS, etc.) are on the same level. This is different from the JAVA Edition ("normal" Minecraft), which makes it only work on Windows 10.
