I want to buy a new monitor because I switched from Xbox to PC.
I'm currently playing with a Benq TN panel with 60hz and would like a new monitor with 240hz.
I mainly play sandbox games, shooters, racing games etc. So basically everything.
Is an IPS 1ms as fast as a TN Panel 1ms these days? It has to be a 24 inch monitor!
Does it make sense to switch to an IPS 240hz?
The new monitor from Predator XB3 IPS has 1ms, 240hz, g-sync
or e.g. The Benq XL2540 TN, 240hz, 1ms, g-sync
I only use these monitors for comparison!
Which is better now? Since the IPS has better image quality and colors but has problems like ghosting. I don't care about the viewing angle because I'm sitting in front of the monitor.
I just can't decide 😬
I would always take IPS.
Incidentally, 1ms is just marketing. This indicates how quickly the monitor can change from gray to gray. This is negligible and not relevant, has nothing to do with input lag, which is almost never stated.
I have no problems with ghosting on my monitor.
Ips has a nicer picture but a higher input lag (not to be confused with the response time)
So if you gamble for "fun" and it's not about every millisecond, take ips.
If you care about every little second of reaction time, take it.
even if both screens have a response time of 1ms, the input lag for ips monitors is still higher.
Mandatory TN at 240 Hz, IPS is too slow for this.
What monitor do you have?
AOC C24G2U, 144Hz FHD 24 "
Now I only gamble comfortably 😁
So you notice the input lay e.g. In Cod, Fortnite
I wouldn't say. Nobody can notice this, the time is simply too short. You can only talk yourself into things like "boah I would have seen the 1ms earlier, then I would have killed him.
I would take the IPS monitor in your place. Is roughly comparable to your ping. Do you mind if you have 32 instead of 30ms all at once? If not, then the ips monitor doesn't bother you either.
So I don't have a big disadvantage in shooters with an IPS panel?
Is the input noticeable from an IPS versus a TN?
Just the Benq RL2455
Reason? Then why are IPS 240hz sold? 😬😬
Always depends on the panel. You buy blindly.
I don't think as long as you're not in the professional eSports field.
What do you mean with the ping right now? And the 30ms? 😬😬
Have not been in esport for a few years. So it will whsl the IPS panel 😬
At 240hz, a new image should be displayed every 3.5 ms, IPS panels can't guarantee to display every pixel with a response time of 3.5 ms, which can lead to ghosting and streaks.
I would not recommend IPS anyway because of the backlightbleed problem with many panels and the inevitable ips glow. I would stay with TN until there are decent OLED monitors. Exceptions are 2nd monitors, because TN is not particularly good due to the beam angle, IPS / VA would be better.
Yeah everyone says something else 😂
I'm so annoyed because I just don't know what to take.
What is the ips glow?
Sure everyone says something different, you get 90% of the time in such forums just a recommendation of what the others bought - regardless of whether they thought about it or just bought it. It's quite logical.
IPS glow had to google, is in the nature of the panel. Difficult to describe. For me, it virtually eliminates the avoidable black value advantage of IPS.
Ips has a better picture but a higher input. TN a lower but not so nice picture.
That means if you are an athlete you should take a screen with a low input lag.
Jo just read it through to me like a lottery whether the display is good or not ^^
What monitor would you recommend to me? 24 inches, gsync?
I only have 27 inch screens in wqhd. 240hz / 1080p is nothing where I can recommend something. I have had good experiences with Dell in terms of quality and service - vll will help you. Otherwise read reviews and read reviews. As some have already written, the response times are nonsense and worthless, so you always have to rely on external tests.
As the answer says, you don't need to be interested in 1ms, even with 10ms you have no real disadvantage… I also have ips (Predator X34p) and would always only recommend ips. So far no problems with ghosting either.
IPS has more precise colors - better that is not perse - better that is from the perspective of certain people - e.g. Content creator - since they rely on exact reproduction when editing. But it is not the case that there's a generally better picture. You often have a better black value (which also gives decent TNs in terms of that) but the disadvantage with ips-glow - especially with black - and with backlight bleed. At TN haste halt color bending e.g. - With high refresh rates, ghosting or the like is more likely with ips. Because the panels are slower. Therefore, the "better" picture is massively dependent on the situation and therefore completely dependent on use.
What pc do you have?
Well, you always have a ping from the internet, which may sometimes fluctuate. If you sometimes have 2ms more and don't notice it, then you won't notice the differences between tn / ips
