If your daughter marches on Fridays for Future and wants a (climate-friendly) PS5 for Christmas. Would you do this?

My neighbor casually asked me this question, whose daughter is a fervent believer in the climate

Wouldn't that be pretty inconsistent?

As

I think that the daughter herself shouldn't support that if she cares about the climate and goes to Fridays for Future instead of school, which is a good thing in my opinion, but the washing is a bit contradictory!

Je

Then you should take her cell phone away, stop buying her clothes, eat vegan, and so on. These are exactly the same contradictions. So you can no longer "fight" for something just because you are not perfect?

As

But you can develop an awareness of buying new things and I don't think that a pS5, unlike clothes etc. Is necessary! But everyone can disagree!

Pl

Depending on the age, the daughter can finance the PS5 itself. Then she immediately gets an impression of how much you have to work to be able to afford a certain luxury. The self-financed is viewed with higher esteem and she doesn't want another one again next year. And that also benefits the climate again.

Je

Clothing is important, but 7 t-shirts and 3 pants are enough. The daughter will have it. New / additional clothing, although it has some, is just as unnecessary as a PS5. Can she therefore only have 7 t-shirts?

As

I did not say that, although 7 tshirts are not that little now, but apart from that I simply wrote my opinion, there may be others, I'm generally concerned with consumer behavior and an awareness of what you really need and what you have to buy while remaining true to his point of view

Thank you!

At least one post that does not exude hypocrisy between the lines…

I think it's pretty ridiculous to deny her because it's "inconsistent". I'm also an FFF "follower" (, I have been there a few times and support it). I'm currently typing on my second screen on my PC. My iPad and cell phone are next to me and I'm probably eating bananas from another continent. I like to fly to my family in Mexico.

Nevertheless, I'm in favor of increasing airfares (especially within Germany).

Nevertheless, I'm in favor of sanctioning Co2 emissions and at least reducing it with Co2 certificate trading, even if it means that I have to pay more for my fuel.

Nevertheless, I'm in favor of mining raw materials in an environmentally friendly manner and without exploiting the 3rd world, even if the stuff then of course becomes more expensive.

Nevertheless, I'm in favor of buying regional products.

Nevertheless, I'm in favor of stopping the cheap open-cast mining and burning of coal as soon as possible, even if this increases the bills.

Working for FFF does not mean living like a self-sufficient monk in the forest without consumption and Co2 emissions, that is not (or hardly?) Possible these days. There don't always have to be two extremes: "I'm not buying you a PS5 because FFF" "I'm not driving you to school because FFF" and "I live self-sufficient in the forest because FFF"

So are you in favor of privileging climate-damaging behavior?

Mi

What sense does it make to judge other people for what you do yourself? That is double standards! Parents are not allowed to drive off-road vehicles, but young people are allowed to care about the environment, the main thing is that they demonstrate against it. Hello?

Ch

It is about starting with small changes, there's simply no other way. The main part of the pollution simply comes from companies etc.
Alone that the knowledge is there's just a start, but if this is criticized by everyone you will get no further if everyone would start making small cuts instead of saying and what the others are doing… Just find it unfair about this judging young people, but even then it's best not to do anything except gripe

Tr

I say it so simply because I don't have to live on the subsistence level. I'm very grateful for that, because when I was born I was lucky to have two parents who can now also comfortably do their home office. I'm one of those people who wouldn't mind those price increases.

Nevertheless, I note that there must be no domestic German flights, only "rich" benefit from it anyway.

If you say

So are you in favor of privileging climate-damaging behavior?

Then I would like to add that this is already the case. The rich will always be able to do what they want because everything has a price.

But how do we get it, e.g. Driving less cars without making everyone's money? The "privileged" don't care how much it costs. These are questions you have to ask yourself to maintain a certain fairness in society. You can't deprive people of freedom by saying "Everyone is only allowed to make 5 flights a year / drive 30,000km". You have to develop a system that enables money earners the same life as "before the price increases", but nevertheless lowers climate-damaging behavior.

Mi

And these companies produce… What? And for whom? Throw the produced into a gorge or what? Metal is produced that is harmful to the environment, which is used to make an ambulance, train, bridge, fittings for concrete buildings and a refrigerator. What does a young person want to do without? This walking around and shouting "the adults break everything" is just stupid. Another person should always take these "small steps". The young people want their umpteen items of clothing, take a warm shower every day and have the latest equipment. The others should somehow save the climate.

Fi

Again these foreign moral apostles, who demand adherence to a morality that is not their own and that they do not adhere to. Hypocrisy squared. Like this: If you are against excessive CO2 emissions, please stop breathing.

I don't think much of game consoles, but they are not extremely climate-sensitive, like a notebook or PC. Showy cars, for example, are a completely different league.

Your commitment to climate protection should not be punished.

Ch

Demonstrations are about making people aware of a problem and not about wiping it out on their own. You just can't expect children to change everything.
It's about politics finding solutions, that's why politicians were chosen.

It is clear that everyone changes a little bit, but nobody is perfect and to call his own child hypocritical because of a Playstation is clearly exaggerated and unfair.

Du

Was that a neighbor? (You write: "A neighbor, whose daughter")
What do you mean by "ardent supporter of the climate"? (See: Answer by @ Velbert2)

To 1 … Stupidly formulated (have changed the text several times and not checked)

to 2 … Do you really want an honest answer (from me) to this question?

Postnatal brain development

Even if all nerve cells are already present at birth, the development of the brain is far from complete. A functioning network has yet to develop; at the time of birth, a rough framework has only been created. Therefore, the brain and nerve network grow extremely rapidly up to the age of six, after which the development slows down until it is finally completed after the age of 20.

= old adults who join fff have probably gone through a backward development. Politicians who pretend consent are on the ballot or they belong to the Green dropouts who only act ideologically but not according to knowledge.

Not to be beaten in cynicism.

Thank you! I hope you mean it honestly and it is not just "said"!
