You can find sponges in underwater temples.
Just take a boat across an ocean and you'll find one. They are not uncommon.
Sponges can be found in water temples and (I think) in coral reefs, but I'm not sure.
You will have to find an ocean monument. Since they are not available that often, you can buy an ocean end connector card. The best way to do this is to simply take a boat across the ocean. Inside you will find sponges. You can find ocean monuments in the biome "Cold deep sea and lukewarm deep sea. But not in the biome" warm ocean ".
