I'm looking for games for the ps4 or switch that have the following criteria.
The game should have a turn-based combat system where you control 4 characters at the same time.
In the game you should be able to create your own characters and choose their calling yourself. So if I want to play with 4 magicians, then I also play with 4 magicians
The way in which the characters fight should not be determined from the beginning. So that you can use a different tactic with each new game
The best example I know is
Dragon Quest 9
Finding identical combat systems that have to meet so many criteria is really extremely difficult. Especially if the whole thing should also be turn-based. Turn-based combat systems are becoming rarer from year to year… Because the general public wants Open World games with realistic graphics and countless side quests.
Since turn-based combat systems are mostly included in Japanese role-playing games, which value a story… It is a pious wish to be able to create your own characters or to determine who is allowed to fight and when. The characters are often given and defined based on the story alone.
A beautiful turn-based game, however, would be Octopath Traveler for the Switch. They wanted to revive a little nostalgia and created a beautiful pixel graphic. You will find 8 different characters in the course of the story, but they have a fixed "main job". But there's the possibility that every character can learn every job… And you can assign the desired second job to the characters according to your play style. In a very old-school way, you have to give each character the command in combat what exactly they have to do. - The fights are therefore slower than in modern warrior titles.
I recently saw Final Fantasy 8 in the Nintendo shop on my Switch. Even has pimped graphics. Another recommendable turn-based game with a great story.
Last Remnant is also available for the Switch and the PS4. This game also contains a turn-based battle system that can't be compared to anything. You fight with up to 18 characters, which you have to set up in associations. An extremely interesting game mechanic because the whole thing is still turn-based. The jobs of healers, magicians, tanks, etc. But blur
Octopath traveler and last remnant are just the kind of games I like them.
