Hey and indeed you can expand the memory inside the ps5 with a memory medium that does not yet exist.
is there also a hard drive via usb?
my question does it make a difference between this storage medium what you can put in there and that via usb hard drive?
With the Xbox this is possible but the USB hard drive can only be used for Xbox one and lower games, for the new Series X games you need the right hard drive. I think it's the same with the PS5
The internal memory can be expanded with an ultra-fast M.2 SSD.
An external HDD or SSD can also be connected, but only PS4 games can be stored on this due to the lower bandwidth.
These "ultra-fast M.2 SSD's" cost clockers 200 euro.
Just as a little bit of information
The 1TB extension of the xbox costs 240 euro. 🤷♀️ So both don't care about the price.
^^ only the price will fall very sharply after a short time.
And with the XBOX SERIES X it is not mandatory. In the case of the Ps5, it is. (due to limited storage space)
A 970 EVO manages 3500 MB / s and costs significantly less at 160 euro. Although this speed is not quite as high as with PCIe 4.0 SSDs, it is far removed from the usual SATA storage media and should be more than sufficient in terms of performance with significantly lower acquisition costs.
If it is officially supported, I will definitely buy one of these.
