I would like to start with both, simply because I'm looking for a flexible hobby… I'm also interested in the whole subject of film.
So actually the perfect hobby.
However, I'm afraid that the whole thing will be too big for me, am afraid of the opinions of others & also I don't think it would be my thing if 'many' people know me.
I don't expect to become famous, but I would be embarrassed if the people from my village knew that or something…

You don't necessarily have to show your face. Just give it a try.
Better leave it. One should do it with ambition, not fear.
I would start in your place if you enjoy it, after all, it takes a while to become "popular" and if that is the only problem, then it has no reason not to start.
With this attitude you should just remain a spectator.
Give it a try but if you notice you are uncomfortable with or it is nothing for you then listen.
