Is it possible to buy things from the Microsoft Store on the pc with an Xbox gift card?

I read somewhere that one can redeem Xbox debit cards in the Microsoft Store. Is that correct?

That's right, you need to load the prepaid card from Microsoft's site by typing in the code. How exactly that works, but I do not remember. It's something that I did.
