Ebay rip off?

My brother and I have just bought an Xbox Series S on ebay (was only used briefly once, according to the seller)

This cost 190 euro with shipping. So 100 euro below the normal retail price.

After several inquiries regarding condition, authenticity and proof of purchase, all of which he had answered positively, we then decided to buy it.

Later he also sent me the receipt (from Cyberport).

He allows 2 payment options: transfer and cash on collection.

Hence my question: Can he still rip us off now? And what should we avoid or do?

Ab

Ebay or ebay classifieds?

Am

Yes he can rip you off.

If you pay cash and test the XBox beforehand, very little can happen.

Ebay

Ab

He should send it INSURED as a DHL or Hermes package.

We

Unfortunately it is very far away

What does his seller profile look like?

We

What do you mean?

It had 3 ratings in the last year. All as buyers - all positive. This is his only article

No matter how far away he lives, if you make cash payment when you pick it up and test it again beforehand, it's better to pick it up because you can then be sure. Or you buy yourselves when the fuel price / train price / etc. Driving there would be the same, just one from the trade

We

Yeah yeah Is in. It has been registered since 2011

Only if you pay with PayPal on ebay do you have buyer protection. Otherwise, you always run a risk if a product has a material defect when you buy a used item from a private person, i.e. The item is not as described.

if such a deficiency is shown afterwards, it depends on the goodwill of the seller whether he is willing to accept the consequences. This is clearly regulated in the law (BGB § 434 liability for defects); but to be right and to enforce it successfully are always "2 pairs of shoes"

only if you pick up the goods for cash and can try them out beforehand, the risk is virtually eliminated.

That's exactly what I meant. Of course, 3 ratings are very little to draw conclusions from. But of course the seller can't help that. So fraud can't be ruled out without wanting to accuse someone of evil.

I can see he's been on Ebay for 10 years. Look again under "Seller Information" for the total number of reviews. (In brackets and with ⭐.) What percentage of the ratings are positive?

Ab

And how about where you live, could you pick up the part?

We

Is in Weil der Stadt. 150 km away

We

Hmm, I asked him several times about the condition and he said everything was optimal. He only sells them because he was not satisfied after trying them once

Trust your gut feeling, something else is neither better nor worse.

i remember my first major purchase (a notebook) on ebay; had a lot of jitters whether everything would be ok. But the seller had a very good rating profile.

after many years with ebay, the thesis can be made that around 2-3% of all deals are made by (large and small) black sheep, so a relatively low risk.

My brother and I have just bought an Xbox Series S on ebay (according to the seller it was only used once for a short time)

No, you did not buy it "on eBay", but from a seller. A legally binding sales contract according to the German Civil Code (BGB) came about that you now have to fulfill:
You have to pay, the seller has to deliver.

According to your profile, you are 15 years old and you are not allowed to use eBay at all, is at least your brother of legal age?

And the terms of payment are fixed before the purchase, why does your question come after?

We

My brother is 20.

Gu

Nice.

Then he knows what to do now: Pay.

We

Of course, but you can always ask. What to watch out for if he wants to rip you off before my brother does something we shouldn't have done

Gu

What we shouldn't have done

You should have informed yourself about the payment methods and shipping before buying or bidding, because that's all in the item description.

And maybe you read it through before you buy something again:
