On the Xbox one, it is regulated so that an HDMI cable can be connected to the HDMI output with a TV or projector. This causes the TV to project the incoming data stream onto the screen.

The HDMI input is there to connect other devices such as a receiver or other devices to the Xbox. Depending on the device, there are often applications on the Xbox that can communicate with the connected device via HDMI (from your Xbox)

Your monitor or television is connected to the output as usual. You can connect various devices such as BD players, satellite receivers etc. To the input. On the xbox there's then an app with which you can call up the input signal.

I haven't quite understood the meaning behind it, because the connection can't do more than that and you could connect the devices directly to the television.

maybe microsoft wants to listen to what you're watching on tv:-)

PS: with my old A / V Reciver it was the case that the HDMI signal was passed through 1: 1 from a pre-defined input when it was switched off. Maybe that's the same with the xbox.
