Of course it is possible. Of course, you can't use HDMI 2.1 or 2.0 functions with it.

But running an XSX on FullHD is not great.

Definitely in my opinion. Sure, the 120Hz is quite nice in games with a corresponding mode, but I would never do without 4K resolution in all other games.
A television with HDMI 2.1 would of course be even better, since you can use both. But I would wait with the purchase, next year there will be more and cheaper models for sure.
@ Benedikt789 does it make a big difference between hdmi 2.0 and hdmi 2.1?
With 2.1 you can use 4K @ 120Hz.
