As far as I know, it should be possible to create a gamertag without numbers, but I can be wrong on this point.
You can't add emojis to your gamertag, as each platform has different emojis and may also name them differently. So these emojis could not be recognized either, which would mean that such a box would appear with a question mark and so you could not find the person.
