Why are there no more movie-related video games?

Why are there no PC or console games like e.g. "Shrek"?

Is the "era over" for such games, or have console games perhaps even been somewhat displaced in the age of smartphone tablets and the like?

I also have the feeling that "non-violent" games are rather rare at the moment.

I've had the PS4 for about 1-2 years, but somehow there are hardly any games worth watching. Apart from the "usual" ones like Fortnite, GTA, Fifa etc. But there's no such thing as "Shrek" (also without a film reference).

But then there are "retro simulations" like "Pinball FX3" again.

"Shrek 2" (1 does not exist) was my first game on the Nintendo Gamecube at the time (or second, since Mario Kart was included in the console), and is still one of the best games with which ( mMn.) best graphics, which even exclusive titles (Zelda Mario and Co.) can't match.

I have the feeling anyway that the Gamecube was the last "decent" console from Nintendo. I also had the Nintendo WII, but my enthusiasm (technically) was rather limited. Here "Ratatouille" was the best game (graphically the same as Shrek, since the same manufacturer).

But I found it a bit "daring" from Nintendo to switch to this "motion control"; clearly you are offering something that no one else has, but which is also rather "difficult to understand" for game developers. (For me, the WII was more of a "recreational sports device" than a "real" console.)

There were also DVD games at the very beginning, or (especially with the Shrek 2 DVD) that you can also play games on the PC, print out coloring pages, etc. The Harry Potter 2 DVD even has a demo version of the PC game Harry Potter 2 included (of course you don't need that anymore, because everyone has internet…). I also heard once that these games can damage the DVD player.

Why do you think we're more likely to develop backwards than forwards?

Thanks for the answer, but please read the full question once.

lo

Regarding the headline: I think because video games have become more popular. Movies used to be popular and budget-friendly, now it's the other way around and games have become popular.

The number of movies to play has also risen sharply in recent years.

There's little point in paying money for a license if the movie isn't as popular as the game itself would be.

Hope this makes sense.

I can't go into everything in the question, then I would still be there tomorrow. Overall, however, the industry continues to develop.

Is too long XD

Can you possibly ask the question in an understandable way?

Where please do we develop, whoever that's us back?

What do you mean by that?

Sorry, I don't know Shrek 2, but maybe your memory is a bit colored. This is often so that the games you come into contact with first are better remembered. In retrospect, however, you can see that objectively and emotionlessly it wasn't so great after all.

It is certainly not because I'm asking my questions in an incomprehensible manner. Just read the first three sentences alone.

How is the Avengers game based on a movie?

We

Maybe because you can't make much profit from it.
Nowadays the focus is on games that can be expanded with DLC and where you can also buy something. Both bring more money than the one-time sale of a self-contained game. And I think that's mostly the case with the movie-based games.

It's just a shame anyway… I have the feeling anyway that it's really all about making money.
